According to recent census data Kakuyuni has a population of 6,405 residents with slightly more females (3,343) than males (3,062). The ward has approximately 985 households spread across the area. The Madunguni area which is within Kakuyuni has another 3,214 residents.Education in Kakuyuni has Kakuyuni Primary School which has 825 pupils (425 boys and 400 girls) in 17 classrooms. The school has 23 government teachers and 11 board managed staff. Kakuyuni Boys Secondary School is also located in the area and plays a big role in education and community development.

  1. Construction of a new 5,000 m³ water reservoir at Kakuyuni adjacent to the existing water tank at Kakuyuni Boys Secondary School.
  2. Installation of a 29 km transmission pipeline (DN 800mm, steel) from Baricho pumping station to Kakuyuni reservoir.
  3. Rehabilitation of the existing DN 600mm Baricho-Kakuyuni pipeline system with replacement of non-functional valves and fittings.

This water infrastructure project will improve water supply not only to Kakuyuni but also to Malindi, Watamu, Kilifi and Gongoni towns and surrounding areas.
