Jaribuni is one of the four wards that make up Ganze Constituency, the other three being Bamba, Ganze and Sokoke. Ganze Constituency is one of the seven constituencies in Kilifi County. The constituency covers an area of approximately 2,941.60 square kilometers making it one of the largest constituencies in the region.
According to the 2019 census, Ganze Constituency had a population of 143,906 people, 66,921 males, 76,981 females and 4 intersex. Earlier population data (1999 census) had Jaribuni location with 6,210 residents, while recent data shows 7,183 residents. The constituency has an interesting demographic pattern with a gender index (women to men) of 1.18 which was ranked 1st among 1008 constituencies in earlier demographic studies.
Jaribuni ward had 6,822 registered voters as of March 2013, out of the constituency’s 37,563 registered voters at that time. The current Member of Parliament for Ganze Constituency is Hon. Charo Kenneth Kazungu Tungule of Pamoja African Alliance Party (PAA) who was elected in 2022.
Socioeconomic Characteristics.
Agriculture is the main economic activity in Ganze Constituency with a focus on cashew nut and indigenous livestock breeds. Before the ban, investors had planned to tarmac the 9km Dzitsoni-Jaribuni road with each investor allocated one km of development under the supervision of Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
The ban has broader regional implications as about 90% of construction materials for Kilifi and neighboring counties (Tana River, Lamu, Mombasa and Kwale) come from these quarries. This has led to increased construction material costs and potential delays in infrastructure projects in the coastal region.
