Ichagaki is one of the six wards in Maragwa Constituency which is one of the seven constituencies that make up Murang’a County in Kenya’s former Central Province. The ward falls under Maragua town council alongside Gakoigo, Mbugua and Samar wards. According to electoral records, Ichagaki had approximately 4,480 registered voters as of September 2005.

Maragwa Constituency is strategically located in Murang’a County, borders Machakos County to the east, Embu County to the northeast, Kiharu Constituency to the north, Gatanga Constituency to the south, and Kandara and Kigumo constituencies to the west. The entire constituency has a land area of approximately 547.2 square kilometers and has six wards: Kimorori/Wempa, Makuyu, Kambiti, Kamahuha, Ichagaki and Nginda.

The current leadership of Maragwa Constituency is Mary Waithera Wamaua of UDA who was elected as Member of Parliament for the second time in 2022 general elections. Historically Maragwa Constituency was known as Makuyu before the 1996 review of constituencies by the Electoral Commission which added parts of Gatanga and Kandara to form the present day Maragwa.
