Nyakoe is one of the five wards in Kitutu Chache South Constituency alongside Bogeka, Kitutu Central, Bogusero and Nyatieko. This constituency was created in 2013 by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) when Kitutu Chache Constituency was divided into two.
Located in Kisii County, western Kenya, Kitutu Chache South Constituency lies between 0°30’ and 1°0’ South and 34°38’ and 35°0’ East. The constituency is bordered by several other constituencies including Karachuonyo to the East, Bonchari to the South, Kitutu Chache North to the North, Kitutu Masaba to the North West and several others that form its boundaries.
Area Features.
The terrain in Nyakoe like the rest of Kitutu Chache South is hilly with many ridges and valleys. The area has several rivers that flow from east to west and connect to permanent waterways that drain into Lake Victoria.The area has fertile soil that supports various agricultural activities. The highland equatorial climate has a bimodal rainfall pattern with long rains from February to June and short rains from September to early December. This climate combination of enough rainfall and moderate temperatures makes the area suitable for growing tea, coffee, maize, beans, finger millet, potatoes, bananas and groundnuts. Also the area is conducive for dairy farming which is an important economic activity for the locals.

Currently there is ongoing construction of Suneka-Kiogoro By Pass, Kiogoro-Kegati ByPass and Nyakoe-Kegati road networks with an allocation of KES 90,000,000 for 2023. The project will construct 3 kilometers in 2023, 5 kilometers in 2024 and 5 kilometers in 2025. This infrastructure development will boost property values along these corridors and stimulate economic growth in the affected areas.
Commercial Infrastructure.
One of the major commercial developments in Nyakoe is the construction of the multimillion Nyakoe modern market. Phase one of this project valued at KSh 107 million has already been completed. The completed works include two sheds, civil works, street lighting and a car park.
This market development is significant as it will shelter thousands of small scale traders in Kitutu Chache region who were previously doing business in the open air, exposed to weather elements. The market is the second to be funded by the National Government in Kisii County after Daraja Mbili market. The implementation of this project is being managed by the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA).
The water project will also serve vegetable farmers, ensuring year round water supply and potentially reducing dependence on imported vegetables during dry seasons. More water kiosks will be installed to facilitate community access to clean water.
