Electricity Connection Expansion.

In 2020, the national government allocated KSh 400 million for power connection in Mwingi West subcounty, to connect over 4,800 homesteads to the grid by 2021. This project was focused on areas where:

  • Market centers had no electricity connection
  • Primary and secondary schools needed electricity for night learning.Kenya Power Northeastern regional manager confirmed this during a fact finding mission with MP Charles Nguna, many market centers in Mwingi West had no electricity while others were experiencing prolonged power outages.

Mwingi Municipality Strategic Plan 2024-2029 has a big vision for sustainable urban development. Key components of this plan are:

  • Land banking for future development
  • Environmental conservation through tree planting along riparian reserves
